Archery in the old way
00:00, 29 March 2002
THE only traditional English longbow archery club in the UK is to start on April 8, meeting on Monday and Wednesday evenings at Quex Park, Birchington.
It is to be run by Kent county champion archer Steve Nicholson, of Broadstairs. Mr Nicholson said: “Participants can be sure of expert tuition and we welcome anyone who wants to try it out. There are plenty of clubs for modern archery, but this will be the only one using traditional methods.
“We plan to give displays during the summer. It is not a fantasy escape into the past for people who want to dress up in old-fashioned costumes, but we will probably put some apples on people’s heads to shoot at.”
