Sam Billings is still struggling to come to terms with his scintillating 135 not out off just 58 balls in Kent’s dramatic two-run win over Somerset in the Royal London One-Day Cup in Taunton.
He hit 17 fours and five massive sixes – not that Billings remembers any shot in particular, or much about his competition-best knock last Thursday.
The young wicketkeeper, 23, said: “It (his innings) is all still a bit of a blur to be honest.
“It was just one of those innings where it all seems to go right for you and everything you try comes off.
“The adrenaline was really flowing and it’s so hard, almost impossible really, to stop going for it when you are hitting the ball that way.You feel as though that you can hit every ball for six.”
However, Billings said he guaranteed he wouldn’t have been happy if his side had not won. He said: “Those runs would have counted for nothing had we not come away with the win.
“And it got far too close for comfort in the end.”
Billings said he was hoping he and his team-mates could keep the momentum going, despite a hectic schedule which gets under way with a trip to the Kia Oval to face Surrey on Tuesday. Kent then host Glamorgan at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, on Wednesday.
He said: “We’ve started well, and so have I – I’d love to play every day if I could given the way I am playing. I doubt I’d say that if was struggling for runs though.”
