Brands to stage touring car championship decider
00:00, 05 October 2001
THE www.theAA.com MSA British Touring Car Championship roars into Brands Hatch for the final round of 2001 this coming weekend. After the most competitive season in years, the championship will be decided at the Kent venue.
The racing this year has been action-packed with this season's spectator favourites Jason Plato (Channel 4's 'Driven' presenter) and Yvan Muller, fighting for every point.
Plato is currently leading the BTC Touring Drivers' Championship by just six points, and will be looking to clinch the title this weekend, making him the first British winner of the Championship since John Cleland in 1995.
However, Plato's greatest rival, Muller won the feature race last time out at Donington Park, and is sure to put up a tough fight. Muller said: "It was a tough race at Donington but it was a bigger pleasure to win like this. Everything now depends on Brands Hatch."
