British baseball calls up Bobcat boys

Two teenage brothers from Tonbridge Bobcats youth baseball club have been called up for Great Britain duty.
Jamie Ratcliffe, 14, a pupil at Bennett Memorial School in Tunbridge Wells, has been selected for the GB Cadet under-16s squad for next month’s European Championship qualifiers in Antalya, Turkey.
He has previously played for Great Britain at under-13 level, for the under-16 development squad and has been attending the GB Baseball Academy for expert coaching.
The versatile player has joined the Medway Mariners adult team – who play at Mapleston Noakes School in Maidstone – for this summer, after becoming too old for Bobcats duty.
Jamie’s younger brother Sam has been called-up for GB under-13 duty.
The 11-year-old Maidstone Grammar School pupil will take part in the Kenko tournament in Florence, Italy, in August.
Like his older brother, he prefers to play catcher or centre outfield, but he has also proved a useful pitcher for the national squad.
Another Ratcliffe brother, eight-year-old Kester, who also plays for the Bobcats, hopes to be called into the GB Academy when he hit the minimum age of nine.
