WATER sports enthusiasts whose headquarters was destroyed by fire in May last year have celebrated the official opening of their new clubhouse.
The Kent Boat and Ski Club's HQ at Cuxton Marina, near Strood, was opened by the mayor and mayoress, Tony and Val Goulden, during a champagne reception.
Chris Tye, the president and founder of the club, said: "It is marvellous and the club house is back to its former glory and even though the weather let us down it was still a great day for all of us at the club.
"All the members were here to have a look and I think they have all been impressed. It really is magnificent and made up for all the sadness of last year."
Mr Tye founded the club in 1962 with just three boats compared to 30-40 now. It has about 60 members.
