Northampton Town have added former Gills goalkeeper coach Carl Muggleton to their backroom team.

Muggleton spent two seasons as coach at Gillingham, working closely with goalkeeper Stuart Nelson, who he had also coached at Notts County.

The former Leicester City and Stoke keeper joined the Gills shortly after the arrival of Martin Allen. The pair had worked together at County.

He continued to help keeper Stuart Nelson improve and stayed on at the Gills when Allen was sacked in October.

Muggleton left the Gills at the end of the season.

Northampton boss Chris Wilder said: “I am happy to welcome Carl to the club.

“We have done really well to get someone of Carl’s experience and calibre.

“He has a lot of experience as a player and a coach and I am sure he will be of great benefit to Matt Duke and Dean Snedker.”

The Gills are this season using former Arsenal stopper Tony Burns as first-team goalkeeper coach.
