Combe beaten on their travels

00:00, 28 February 2008

WESTCOMBE PARK suffered a 32-12 defeat on their first ever visit to Stourbridge in the National League 2.

Second placed Stourbridge managed to win the game despite seeing two of their players taken to hospital by ambulance in the opening minutes, Combe found themselves behind in the match after 15 minutes as Stourbridge scored a converted try.

Ali Bressington, who had kicked the conversion, then kicked over a penalty to further increase the lead.

Combe weren’t out of it, however, and they got right back into the game when Sam Greenaway charged down a flanker and James Lindfield pounced for a converted try.

Stourbridge made it 13-7 by the break with a penalty from close range.

The home side enjoyed most of the possession after the break and on 55 minutes they extended their lead with two more tries - one which was converted.

Combe refused to accept defeat and Greenaway drove through several players to score a well-deserved try after good work by his fellow backs.

Hopes were crushed soon after when the game was put beyond their reach with a final try for the hosts.
