A WEIGHTLIFTING star from Sheppey has finished third at the British Championships in Birmingham.

Danny Creed, 14, lifted 65kg in the clean and jerk and 50kg in the snatch to finish third in the 59kg category.

The event took place at Oldbury Sports College on Saturday.

Creed is a member of Foundations Weightlifting Club which is based at Nobby’s Gym in Sittingbourne.

Instructor Paul Shaffner said: "I couldn’t have asked much more of him.

"Lots of kids have got the facilities and gyms but we started on a hard standing area in my garden.

"That was his first big competition and it was a good test for him."
