Double departure sparks keeper crisis at Priestfield
17:21, 26 June 2006
GILLINGHAM goalkeeper Jason Brown has completed his move to Premiership Blackburn by signing a four-year deal.
The 24-year-old Wales international was Gillingham’s player-of-the-year last season but the club was unable to meet his demands.
Brown, whose contract with the Kent club expires on Friday, snubbed a two-year contract at Swansea after the Lancashire outfit came calling at short notice.
His decision to quit Priestfield leaves Gillingham without a recognised goalkeeper, following reserve keeper Paul Crichton’s move, also on Monday, to Cambridge.
The 37-year-old, who was also Gills’ goalkeeper coach, has accepted a similar role at the Abbey Stadium on a two year deal.
Gills’ back-up keeper Danny Knowles was released by the club at the end of last season.
