Dynamos see revenge against title rivals

INVICTA Dynamos ice hockey team will be out for revenge on Sunday as they host Swindon Lynx - the only team that have taken points off them this season. It is the Dynamos’ only English National Premier League game of the weekend and is a vital one as they cannot afford to lose two games on the trot to their biggest challengers for the title.

At Swindon last weekend, both sides were without key players but the home side won 6-3 as they looked to maintain the title won while playing under the name Phoenix last season.

Swindon proved they are a force to be reckoned with in their last game with an exceptional comeback. Two goals down after the first 20 minutes away to the Solihull Barons and playing with a skeleton crew, the classy Lynx stormed back to win 7-5.

But the Lynx are not unbeaten, they were surprise 5-4 losers against Romford Raiders, so it is all to play for.

In the last game between the two title favourites, Dynamos were without player coach Andy Hannah and Mike Kindred played despite a knee injury. Team manager Andy Mason said: “We hope to have both these influential players back on Sunday despite the fact Kindred and Kevin Parrish have been suffering from flu. We should have a full strength squad.”

Lynx have more worries as Wayne Fiddes, Lee Brathwaite, Gary Slevin and Dean Mills are all carrying injuries and Drew Chapman and Rob Johnston have not iced for a while.

Plus new netminder Alec Field, who has been excellent, was taken ill during the last game and is a doubt.

Ken Wotherspoon stepped in for the final period and showed great character in keeping a clean sheet so whoever is between the pipes against Invicta is on top of their game.

The Dynamos will also have to stick close to the in-form Merv Priest, who has scored five in his last two games, if they are to win.

Plus danger men Robin Davison and Ken Forshee are on fire both hitting two important goals in their last couple of outings.

Reflecting on the last game and looking forward to Sunday’s Mason said: “In Swindon we came back from two goals down in the first period and should have killed the game in the second. We were all over them but Field, on his debut had a point to prove, and was outstanding.

“We really missed Hannah and a fully fit Kindred but this weekend if we keep their double act of Priest and Davison quiet and our second line is back to full strength we should take them apart."
