FORMER British Formula 3 champion Robbie Kerr will drive for Great Britain when the inaugural A1 Grand Prix series starts at Brands Hatch later this month.
The 25-year old Palmersport instructor was picked along with former McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner Alex Lloyd to drive for Team GBR in the new A1GP series after a shoot-out at the legendary Kent circuit.
A1GP is the brainchild of Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum, a member of Dubai’s ruling family, and is billed as the World Cup of motorsport, pitting nation against nation in identical Lola single-seater cars, powered by 550bhp Zytek engines.
It will hold its global debut at Brands on September 24/25.
While Team GBR principal John Surtees has opted for up-and-coming young drivers, some other countries have favoured big name drivers from Formula 1.
Dutchman Jos Verstappen, Malaysian Alex Yoong and Portuguese Pedro Lamy have all raced in motor racing’s top echelon, as has Ralph Firman, who will be driving for Team Ireland.
