Millwall 2 Gillingham 2
GILLINGHAM emerged from their toughest pre-season test with a creditable 2-2 draw at Millwall.
Goals from Darius Henderson and Darren Byfield in the opening 21 minutes gave Neale Cooper’s side a great start as Steve Claridge’s Lions were stunned.
Barry Hayles pulled the scores back level with two goals in 12 minutes, although the striker missed out on a winner and a hat-trick as he skied a second half spot-kick.
Byfield was subbed late-on after a skirmish with Alan Dunne, while keeper Tony Bullock was added to the increasingly long casualty list after limping off with a foot injury.
A Gillingham reserve team will travel to Eastbourne on Thursday night, with Cooper’s first team concluding their pre-season on Saturday at home to Barnet.
GIllingham: Bullock (Banks 73), Rose, Jackman, Pouton (Cornielle 78), Hope, Cox, Crofts, Hessenthaler (Wallis 64), Flynn, Byfield (Johnson 86), Henderson (Cunningham 45).
Attendance: 1463.
