Gillingham v Chesterfield

GILLINGHAM look to climb out of the League 1 relegation zone tonight with victory over in-form Chesterfield.

Neale Cooper’s side have failed to win in their last six league games but will be hoping to capitalise on their home advantage.

The Gills boss said: "It’s important we get back to winning ways. We’ve got to take home advantage from our next games, starting on Tuesday.

"We’ve got to start performing like we can and start taking some of the chances we’ve been creating."

Chesterfield have won their last three matches, scoring nine goals in the process, although manager Roy McFarland has injury doubts over Steve Blatherwick, Wayne Allison, Shane Nicholson, Alex Bailey and Aaron Downes.

Gills will be without striker Paul Shields (ankle), while defenders Ian Cox (ankle) and captain Chris Hope (hip) also remain major doubts, after missing Saturday’s trip to Tranmere.

Cooper is likely to bring Neil Harris back into the starting line-up to partner Darren Byfield, who will hopefully have recovered from a dead-leg, while the manager may be tempted to change one or two other positions, as the side looked light-weight in defence at the weekend.

* Under-18’s are reminded that they can watch tonight’s match for just £1, with tickets available from the club shop.

The game kicks-off at 7.45pm.
