Gillingham newcomer Aaron Morris was revelling in the limelight on Tuesday night.

The defensive midfielder smashed home the winner for the Gills at Yeovil to claim only his third goal in senior football.

“It was lovely to get the goal and it was a good pass from Doug Loft, just touching it to me and I hit it and it went into the back of the net.

“It felt great and after Saturday at MK Dons, being 2-0 up and losing 4-2, getting a win against Yeovil was a priority. I thought the boys were exceptional.

“Yeovil put us under a bit of pressure but we came through it and it was nice to get a goal as well, so I am happy.

“My (goalscoring) record is not great but I like to think I have a couple of goals in me. That was one of my best. I will remember that one and might record it on Sky.”

Morris’ strike came just three minutes after Simon Gillett had rifled home a free-kick, to cancel out Brennan Dickenson’s first half opener.

“I was looking at the clock and hoping it would be the winner,” said the 24-year-old Welshman.

“They were putting us under the cosh a bit to be fair and they aren’t a bad team, but it was nice to get the winner. I was praying it was going to be the winner. It was a good feeling.”
