“It was a great feeling,” said Cody McDonald, after scoring a late equaliser for Gillingham on Monday.
His late goal cancelled out Walsall’s opener to leave the Gills on the brink of League 1 safety.
That goal came hot on the heels of one against Tranmere Rovers in a 2-0 win on Friday.
“We had two big games and we got two big results,” said the 16-goal striker.
“Hopefully that secures our place in League 1 and we can build on it.
“It was a great feeling to get the goal. Walsall are a good team and good on the ball if you let them play. We had to dig deep and it was a good result for us.”
The Gills went behind early in the second half but improved once Adebayo Akinfenwa arrived from the bench after the hour mark.
The big striker set McDonald up for the equaliser.
“He knows where I am going to be and I know where he is going to be,” said McDonald.
“We work together well and thankfully it got us a good point.

“We did start well after half-time and thought we would have a go but then they had a good bit of pressure and scored and you think ‘not again?
“But you have to keep believing in those situations and we did that.”
The four points over Easter have moved the Gills close to securing their place in League 1, but not quite.
Mathematically, at least, they can still be caught.
“We can’t take our foot off the gas,” said the club’s leading scorer.
“We still have to perform well in the next two games but we are nearly there. Maybe if we put in a good performance at the weekend (against Preston) then we can relax a bit and enjoy the last game of the season at home.”
