INVICTA Dynamos recorded a precious 4-1 English League Cup win at Romford last night, but the weekend was ruined by the Lynx effect when Swindon beat the Mos by the same scoreline on Saturday.

The Lynx were solid in victory over league champions' elect Invicta, answering their critics after two successive narrow home defeats. Dynamos' player-coach Andy Hannah said: “They might have defended well but we were pretty awful on Saturday. We looked flat on the night and they deserved their win although they were no better than in previous games where we've beaten them.

“But it was good to bounce back quickly the following night where we played confidently putting the puck in the back of the net. We seem to have Romford's number and will have to beat them again if we are to go through to the next stage of the cup.”

On Saturday, Ken Forshee set the Lynx on their way with possibly the goal of the season at the Link Centre as the home side prevented the Mos from getting into their stride with some excellent defensive work.

Forshee dived full length to somehow get on the end of a Merv Priest pass to deflect it past Matt Van Der Velden at 7:19.

Hannah wowed the crowd with a touch of showboating after 12 minutes when his crafty back heel went straight to its intended receiver. He continued the good work firing in a great shot at the end of the Mos' second of eight powerplays only to see it hit the crossbar.

The Mos scored their only goal of the game in the second period when Mike Kindred got the defining touch following a huge scramble in front of the Swindon goal. Man of the match Sean Clement cleared off the line at 34.03 but a minute later Swindon scored their second goal at 35:12, a wrist shot from Gareth Endicott.

Swindon found themselves in penalty trouble at the start of the third period but in a game where the Dynamos didn't really get started they were unable to create any good chances.

The Mos then scored while having too many imports on the ice despite Mikko Skinnari's best efforts to get off the ice. The goal initially stood but was correctly chalked off after 500 screaming fans and 15 irate players told the referee the error of his way. Simon Keating scored Swindon's third at 53:12 and at 58:35 Priest came up with the final shot with no reply.

On Sunday, two goals in the first four minutes from Matt Beveridge and Hannah eased the Mos in to a 2-0 lead before Beveridge struck again in the second to kill off the home team.

Duane Ward scored the fourth and Chad Brandimore was awarded a goal, although it was questionable as to whether the puck did indeed fully cross the line. Van Der Velden was named man of the match for the eighth time in what is being a very good season for the young shot-stopper.

Hannah summed up: "We've come through the weekend with everyone healthy and looking forward to getting back to league action against England. It would be good to run them out of the Ice Bowl, score a bunch of goals and give our fans a treat."
