THE Gillingham-based Invicta Dynamos ice hockey team travel to Romford on Sunday knowing that if they win, draw or lose by no more than two goals they will have booked their place in the play-off final.

Already English Premier National League champions, the Gillingham-based ice hockey team are chasing a treble dream. Their exciting style of hockey and never-say-die attitude has already made them champions and got them to the League Cup final.

The dates of the two finals have now been confirmed and the team that triumphs at Romford will meet the Isle of Wight Raiders, playing the first leg away on Saturday April 6, face-off 6pm, and at home the following night.

After this weekend, business between Romford and Invicta will not be finished as the last thing these two bitter rivals have to do is contest the cup. The Raiders have drawn the first tie, to be played on Saturday, April 13 starting at 6pm, which sets it up perfectly for a passionate night of hockey at the Ice Bowl on Sunday, April 14.

Captain Phil Chard believes his side's strong team mentality will see them safely through against a Raiders side who have beaten the Dynamos just once in nine meetings this season.

He said: “Romford know they have to win by three goals but we are not concentrating on losing just winning. We are strong, up for it and will not lie down. We still have a lot to play for and don't want to hand them any psychological advantage going into the cup final.”

Last weekend’s play-off win against Swindon marked Chard’s 200th competitive match in a Dynamos shirt, a milestone Dynamos’ all-time points taker Elliott Andrews will reach this Sunday.
