Impressive 'home run' for Bailey
00:00, 07 December 2001
LOCAL runner Tim Bailey was the overall winner in the Thanet Coastal 10-mile road race in which there were 351 finishers. The event was organised by Thanet Road Runners who celebrated two team victories as well as Bailey's individual triumph on the seafront course at Margate.
Bailey won in 56min 28sec on a fairly good day for racing. Steve Game (Dartford Harriers) lived up to the promise of his surname by staying resolute for second place, some 20 seconds in arrears. Dave Davies and Mike Stacey, of Maidstone Harriers, were the leading veterans in the next two positions and the Harriers also had David Law (seventh) well placed.
Barry Watson (South Kent Harriers) was the first over-50 veteran as Steve Adelsberg put in some rapid foot patrol to claim the Kent Police championships, which were held in conjunction with the main event.
Kath Newman travelled from Exeter to take the women's race by over three minutes from veteran international Janice Moorekite (Invicta).
