Brendan Nash’s fine form with the bat could see him make an impact on Kent’s limited-overs side.
With the 50-over clash with Sri Lanka at Canterbury on Friday and Kent’s first t20 at Somerset looming a week later, the former West Indies international has staked a claim for inclusion in the side in all forms of the game, with big innings in the last two Championship games, both at blistering pace.
His unbeaten 95 at Derby on Wednesday came from 98 balls and included two sixes and seven fours, while a week earlier he amassed 126 in the win against Surrey, cracking 19 fours and a six in his 157-ball innings.
Nash only appeared in 13 of Kent’s 23 limited overs games in 2013, but assistant coach Matt Walker said his form means he has to be considered.
Walker said: “He’s not played much the past couple of years but if he keeps striking the ball as he is, he’s put his name in the frame to play limited overs cricket, that’s for sure.
“Wednesday was an outstanding innings. He played with great intent, some inventive shots and hustle between the wickets. It was a joy to watch. it’s one of those innings which are quickly forgotten in those sorts of games, but it was special.”
The 36-year-old recorded 1,110 Championship runs at an average of 48 last season, but is on course to better that this summer with 239 runs in his last three innings alone and an average of 64 for the season, good for eighth in LV= County Championship Division 2.
Walker added: “He’s in good form right now and enjoying his batting. He’s a key figure for us with his international experience. He’s a very sensible head among the younger players. He’s a big player for us, he brings us a bit of solidarity and know-how at number four.
“He’s playing with real freshness, intent and hitting the ball sweetly.”
