Walsall 2 - 0 Gillingham
GILLINGHAM assistant manager Ronnie Jepson was critical of all areas after the side slipped back into the Coca-Cola League 1 relegation zone following the 2-0 defeat at Walsall.
Jepson said: "We were poor in the final third and the defending as a whole wasn’t good enough, we lost too many individual battles in different areas of the park.
"Since Byfield’s been out and the injuries we’ve had we have struggled in the last third, every man and his dog knows that.
"But we can still do better collectively, we had plenty of possession and balls in their box from set pieces and things in the first half. Maybe we’ve got to be hungrier to get on the end of them.
"It’s difficult with the injuries but the players that go out on the park are professional players, that’s why they’re in the squad, they’ve been given the opportunity to take the shirt and people taking the shirt at the moment aren’t showing the manager perhaps what he’d like to see.
Jepson added: "We’ve got Brent Sancho and Ian Cox, who’s been absolutely superb for us this season, away on international duty. It’s a shame we didn’t have another one because we could have had the game called off."
