GILLINGHAM manager Ronnie Jepson believes his squad is only a few players off a promotion-winning outfit.

With the transfer deadline looming, Jepson will be as busy as ever trying to bring in new recruits as he looks to get the club back on a winning run.

The Gills boss was a relieved man after Saturday’s draw at Blackpool which ended the club’s four-match losing sequence and gave his team a much-needed boost.

"We’re maybe one or two players away from having a promotion-winning team," said Jepson. "But also at the same time we are two or three players short and you’re always looking over your shoulder. We will keep working at it, working hard and we will see where it takes us."

The transfer deadline comes into force on Friday.

Jepson made several changes to his side for the trip to Blackpool, including changing his formation, which has given him plenty to consider.

He said: "We’ve got a point and it stops the rot and hopefully we can continue and make a bit more progress now. We changed it around and hopefully the lads will get a bit of confidence from that."
