Geraint Jones is set to join Gloucestershire on loan as cover for injured wicketkeeper Gareth Roderick.
South African born Roderick is likely to be out of action for six weeks after breaking a finger in the 290-run LV= County Championship Division 2 win over Kent at Bristol this week.
Roderick was struck on the hand during the third day of the game, having missed the first month of the season after fracturing the same finger in a pre-season friendly.
Former England keeper Jones, 37, who has has lost place in the side to understudy Sam Billings, has been skippering the county's Second Eleven as well as turning out for Kent League Sandwich on Saturdays.
Jones could be set for an early reunion with his Kent team-mates as Gloucestershire are due at Canterbury in the NatWest T20 Blast competition on Friday week.
Kent chief executive Jamie Clifford said: "We are in discussions with Gloucestershire about a loan agreement, but nothing has been confirmed at the moment.
Meanwhile Kent have named a squad of 12 for their opening T20 fixture against Somerset in Taunton on Friday. Alex Blake, who hit 65 off 60 balls in the 128-run defeat against Sri Lanka last week replaces Ben Harmison. New paceman David Griffiths is also included.
