Kent are days away from landing a new overseas recruit for the new season, according to chief executive Jamie Clifford.
He wouldn’t offer any clues about the player’s identity, only to confirm he went unsold in the Indian Premier League auction last week.
The county have decided to invest in the signing instead of a pre-season trip abroad.
Mr Clifford said: “We haven’t got infinite resources and have been working hard on the signing, which was top of our wish list.
“We want somebody to play in all forms of the game and available for the whole season, which is something myself and Jimmy Adams are in total agreement about.
“We will get more from him and it provides an element of strategy from a playing point of view.
“Hopefully, things will be completed as soon as possible." Kent Cricket chief executive Jamie Clifford
“Hopefully, things will be completed as soon as possible. There are caveats involved, of course, with things like visas but we would like him to arrive by the end of pre-season and be available for our first championship match against Worcestershire at New Road on Sunday April 13."
Kent will reveal their 2013 financial figures early next month.
Mr Clifford said: “The audit process is finishing about now and we expect to show a year of further improvement.”
Last year’s annual report and accounts predicted increased revenue from sources such as catering and rent at The Spitfire, St Lawrence Ground, including Sainsbury’s, with cost cutting elsewhere in the business also set to be reflected.
The annual meeting takes place on Wednesday, April 2.
