IT'S play-off time for the Gillingham-based Invicta Dynamos ice hockey team as they look to continue their three-pronged challenge for honours.

The English National Premier League champions are chasing a treble and with one skate already in the League Cup final it's time to turn their attentions to the play-offs. First up is an away game at Swindon on Saturday then Romford at the Ice Bowl on Sunday. Both sides got their first wins against the Mos the last time they played so Invicta will be seeking revenge.

Last weekend in the first play-off game between the three Swindon Lynx were rewarded for their industry and deadly finishing with a 5-2 road victory over Romford.

The Lynx are the only side to have beaten the Mos more than once this season winning two of the six meetings both times at the Link Centre.

So with their opponents in good form playing tight hockey the Dynamos know this game is the biggest threat to their treble dream.

Dynamos team manager Andy Mason said: "Swindon are not to be under-estimated. Going to Romford and getting a result like that was a fantastic effort and they will get a lot of confidence from that.

"They also play very well against us on home ice, last time we played they beat us 4-1 so we know we have a real battle on our hands.

"But we have a fully fit side with both Sean Clement and Phil Chard returning from injury last weekend and coming through the game.

"Play-off games are always special and very competitive as the seven-man melee in the game between Swindon and Romford showed. But we must make sure we come through the game without picking up any injuries and unnecessary penalties because we will need everyone for Sunday's game."

That's a piece of advice Romford's notorious Jason Rushton did not heed last weekend as he wracked up more penalty minutes and picked up a shoulder injury playing his indomitable style of hockey.

He will be a doubt for the game against the Mos so player coach Andy Hannah may have to find someone else to fight with.

In all competitions the Mos have beaten Romford six times this season, drawn once and lost just the once.

Mason said: "Games against the Raiders are always classics. Apart from the last game where we were very much depleted and subsequently trounced there's usually only a few goals in it and it's us who normally gets them.

"The games are exciting and very competitive so we are expecting a huge crowd, who will have a large part to play if we are to make a good start to this play-off campaign.

"It's unfortunate that despite finishing first we ended up in a tougher group. Isle of Wight Raiders look odds on to come through the other group after beating Solihull twice already, with only Nottingham Lions standing in their way."
