Lewis backs Gills strikers

ROOKIE midfielder Stuart Lewis is certain the club’s strikers will start hitting the back of the net soon.
Lewis has been with the Gills for just over a month and from what he’s seen in training he’s sure that the front line have what it takes to start doing the business in front of goal.
"It’s only a matter of time when we score two or three and kick on," he said. "I was watching the strikers the other day and they were on fire.
"Leroy was through a few times on Saturday but it just didn’t bounce for him. We’ve got four or five good strikers here and it’s only a matter of time before they start putting them away."
Lewis made only his second start for the club against Yeovil on Saturday and he felt Gillingham were worthy of a win.
"We battled well and shaded it overall as a team," he claimed. "We were just disappointed not to get that goal and the three points but it was a good team performance.
"It was a tough battle for myself and Andrew Crofts as we matched up against three of their midfield.
"I was pleased with my performance and hopefully each game I play I can keep building. I’m only 20 and if I can keep pushing on until the end of the season with good performances then I’ll be pleased.
"Our fitness levels are showing and in the second half we’re coming out on the front foot and pushing for that goal. Last week it came but decisions didn’t go our way this time. Hopefully with a solid performance we can push on."
