Peter Taylor believes Amine Linganzi’s best chance of impressing is by keeping it simple.
The 24-year-old Frenchman was an unused substitute for the Gills in their last four matches of the previous season.
His last competitive game for the Gills came against Leyton Orient, in the 5-1 defeat at Brisbane Road.
Four years ago, Linganzi kicked off his season in the Premier League, at Blackburn.
This summer he’s trying to convince Taylor he is worth a place in his League 1 team.
Gills boss Taylor said: “He can be a classy player but when he tries to show he can be classy, I don’t think he is.
“There are times when he needs that ability he has got to get out of situations and that’s when I want him to use it. I don’t want him to use it when there is no need for it.
“I am just trying to cut down his touches a little bit. He is listening and understands.
“It’s an old saying but he needs to just keep it simple – that’s football.”
