New signing Charlie Wassmer scored at both ends on his debut as Margate beat Thamesmead 2-1 in the Ryman League Premier Division on Tuesday night.
The centre-half put through his own net seconds after half-time to cancel out Charles Ademeno's 40th-minute opener.
But Wassmer made amends by scoring the winner on 66 minutes, with Gate 15th in the table.
There was late drama at Hayes Lane as bottom club Cray conceded an injury-time equaliser against Leiston.
Cray were leading 2-1 when they had keeper Nick Taylor sent off for conceding a 90th-minute penalty but Craig Parker fired over.
There was still time for the visitors to equalise with Stuart Boardley's superb strike earning a point.
Goals from Jordan Bird and Paul Vines had given Cray a 2-0 lead at the break before Adam Tann launched the fightback on 69 minutes.
There was an equally dramatic finish in Ryman League Division 1 South as Sittingbourne conceded twice in the last minute to draw 3-3 with leaders Peacehaven.
Joe Taylor put Bourne in front on 24 minutes in their first home game since Boxing Day.
Josh Jones levelled on the half-hour but Bourne looked set to end the visitors' long unbeaten run after goals from Ryan Golding and Bryan Bell.
Peacehaven snatched a draw, though, thanks to Jamie Brotherton and Dan McLaughlin.
Ramsgate's play-off hopes are fading after a 3-1 defeat at struggling Corinthian-Casuals.
David Pilcher cancelled out Jack Wadmore's early opener as Rams went in level at the break.
But a second-half double from Jamie Byatt leaves Tim Dixon's side nine points adrift of the play-offs.
Herne Bay lost 1-0 at home to Worthing, Brannon O'Neill scoring the only goal of the game after 65 minutes.
