Minster aiming to bounce back

Minster captain Mark Tucker wants a maximum points haul when his side host Ashford Town 3rds on Saturday.

Minster suffered their first defeat of the campaign over the weekend when a fortunate thick edge with three balls remaining gave Catford Wanderers the runs they needed to secure a dramatic three-wicket win in Kent League, Division 3.

But wicketkeeper and number four bat Tucker insists his side can shrug off the disappointment of a slightly unfortunate reverse to heap further misery on struggling Ashford.

“I’m confident we can bounce back and take all 20 points,” said Tucker. “It will not be often in this division that we will be coming up against a third eleven and they will probably be out of their depth this year.

“Saturday’s loss was hard to take because it went down to the wire and we felt they really rode their luck, but we feel we’re playing well and hopefully we can show that on Saturday.”

Minster actually looked well on their way to victory after posting 199 all out and dismissing three of Catford’s four opening batsman for less that 20.

But Bradley Rose single-handedly turned the game in Wanderers’ favour with a brutal knock of 92 not out, and even then it took a final over to decide the outcome of the game.

“I thought we should have won comfortably,” said Tucker, who made 39 and came away with a catch and a smart stumping.

“It was just one of those innings where you ride your luck and everything goes right. Every edge went straight between the slips and every shot seemed to dissect our fielders but fair play to the lad.

“Every team has won games like that, us included, so there’s no real complaint.

“We felt 199 was a decent score and even once the guy had got himself in we kept the field in. We took a gamble and got unlucky.”
