GILLINGHAM suffered defeat to relegation-threatened Rotherham after throwing away a half-time lead at Millmoor on Saturday.

The Millers turned around a 2-1 deficit at the break to win the game and give them a glimer of hope in their desperate scrap to avoid the drop.

Ronnie Jepson's Gillingham side went into the game looking to complete only their third away win of the season and earn three points which would finally end their own lingering relegation doubts.

Gillingham were behind after just seven minutes when Delroy Facey headed in from Martin Woods' cross.

But the Gills turned it around mid-way through the half when German winger Bastians netted with a fine individual effort, finishing the move off with a shot into the top corner to equalise on 22 minutes.

Just a minute later Gillingham were ahead when Bastians' corner kick was headed at the far post by Andrew Crofts.

Gills keeper Kelvin Jack made several outstanding saves in the second half but the home pressure finally paid off when Chris O'Grady netted a 75th minute equaliser.

Marc Newsham popped up with a header 11 minutes later to put Rotherham ahead and complete the turnaround.
