KENT League secretary Roy Vinter has warned clubs about some "worrying aspects" that had crept into the soccer league during the past couple of years.

In his report, presented at the annual meeting, Mr Vinter said the Kent League was a senior league with senior clubs, but some of them were not enhancing the competition.

"These clubs, it would appear, rather masquerade as senior clubs whilst acting as intermediate or even junior status," he said.

"Some grounds require a fair amount of maintenance and clubs complain of having to finance such work while they continue to pay players good money.

"Grants are available - they are not easy to get but worthwhile if you put the in the effort. The league is one of the least expensive to play in at our level, so just consider some other competitions where the fees are twice ours and the ground-grading much stricter."

He added: "I have to say that there is a concern with fixtures again. Clubs have been known to cancel at the last minute due to lack of players. You do not have to have 11 players, it helps and is less costly, but it is no excuse for cancellation."

A rule change was agreed whereby clubs calling off a game without a satisfactory explanation could be fined up to £1,000 plus expenses and have as many as three points deducted.
