On your marks for beach race

ORGANISERS of the fourth annual Harbour Wall Banger race from Broadstairs beach to Ramsgate sands on Sunday (June 2) expect about 150 competitors.
Phil Thorley, who runs the Thorley Taverns leisure group with his father, is a late entrant, together with ferry captain Patrick Philpott, able seaman Alan Wells and catering supervisor Dennis Kerry. The trio from the P and O lines ship ‘Canterbury’ have already raised £500 in donations from their shipmates.
The seven kilometre run starts at 11am and is open to all comers from the age of 15. It is organised by the Marine Officers Society Thanet in conjunction with Thanet Road Runners AC.
