CHARLTON manager Alan Pardew confessed that his side were not good enough after they slipped to a shock home defeat by bottom club Colchester on Tuesday.

It left the Addicks with three points from a possible 15 while they have lost three of their last five Championship home games.

"There are issues in this side which we need to address," said a grim-faced Pardew.

"The only positive I'm looking at tonight is our league position because we're still right in it.

"That performance was not good enough for me or the Charlton faithful.

"If we can get the balance of the team right, get one or two back from injury and maybe bring one in during the transfer window we can put together a run that would secure a promotion place.

"At the moment we're making it very tough for ouselves. That's the second time we've lost to a side that has been bottom of the table and that's not good enough."

Former Charlton striker Kevin Lisbie returned to The Valley in triumph to inflict misery on a side for whom he made 176 appearances.

He opened the scoring in the 13th minute from the penalty spot after Patrick McCarthy had fouled him.

Lisbie increased the lead in the 30th minute with a spectacular overhead kick.

Substitute Luke Varney pulled back a goal in first half stoppage time from Lloyd Sam's cross and thought he had equalised in stoppage time only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.

Charlton's second half performance was punctuated by a series of errors and were booed off by their own supporters at the final whistle.
