KENT'S Georgina Harland once again proved herself the best female pentathlete in the country by retaining her national title at Bath.
The 23-year-old from Waltham, near Canterbury, achieved victory with a personal best points tally and is the first woman in more than a decade to successfully defend her title. She finished with an advantage of more than 100 points over runner-up Sian Lewis but she feels there is still more to come.
Just a week earlier the Great Britain squad member had won an international indoor pentathlon in Budapest, making her the unofficial world No 1. Harland, who collected bronze at last year's world championships, said: "I was really pleased with the win at Bath especially as I've only recently come out of winter training so I'm still some way off peaking.
"I was around 30 seconds ahead of Sian before the last event, the run, so it meant that I did not have to go flat out and I felt I still had a few seconds left in me at the finish."
Harland's next challenge comes in the opening World Cup round in Madrid at the beginning of April. Three more qualifiers follow ahead of the final in Hungary in August. She also has her sights set on the World Championships which are in San Francisco in July.
