Richards keen to carry on momentum

Match-winner Garry Richards is hoping his last-gasp goal will kick-start Gillingham’s League 2 promotion push.
The big defender netted Gillingham’s injury time winner at Darlington on Saturday to give the Gills their first three points of the season.
“That will give us the momentum to go on and win many more,” said Richards.
“We didn’t play our best football at times and we know we can play better but we dug in, gave 110 per cent and got the three points.
“We’ll look forward to next week now and, coming off the back of a great performance and win, we’ll push on for another three points.
“We deserved the win (on Saturday) and we’re over the moon. It wasn’t the prettiest of performances but we got the result we wanted.”
Gills striker Mark McCammon also briefly claimed the goal on Saturday, after making sure the ball went in, but nobody was going to take the glory from Richards.
“I’m definitely claiming that one,” said Richards. “It’s definitely the first time I’ve scored with a backheel and I don’t think there will be another coming for a while!
“The goal was nice for me but more importantly it was our first away win.
“We should have taken three points from Bournemouth as well. We haven’t had an away win since January, so it’s great to get that away win under our belts early doors.”
