Gillingham chairman Paul Scally is expecting to see an exciting brand of football next season

08:00, 06 June 2014

Gillingham chairman Paul Scally is excited by the brand of football that Peter Taylor will be looking to play next season.

Manager Taylor is hunting out new talent after releasing a large part of last season’s squad, which was assembled by former boss Martin Allen.

Mr Scally – who took over as owner in 1995 and is about to embark on his 20th season at Priestfield – believes exciting times lie ahead.

He said: “Peter Taylor wants to play football and wants to play exciting, aggressive, attacking football but to do that you have to have the right blend of players.

“That wasn’t necessarily the case last season. We are comfortable with the situation and wish well those that have left, because they are good people and worked hard for the club.

“We hope they have future successes at other clubs.

“There is the opportunity for the manager to bring in his own players now. He had to work with players that weren’t necessarily his type of player last season and we did a fantastic job staying in this division.

“I think everyone will be excited, with the prospect of bringing in a new management team and some new players, of having a good season next year.”
