Gillingham chairman Paul Scally won't make a decision on the future of Peter Taylor until the club are safe from relegation in League 1

Chairman Paul Scally won’t be making a decision on a long-term Gillingham manager until the club are safe from relegation.
But current boss Peter Taylor is making plans just in case it’s him.
Taylor wants to build a team over the summer that can be more competitive in League 1 after guiding them close to mid-table respectability.
He said: “I always write things down as if it’s going to be me and if it’s not, then you put those things in the bin, simple.
“I am prepared, if it’s me. If it’s not me, then I will be having a longer holiday.”
Mr Scally has confirmed that it is his intention to make a decision on Taylor’s position when, and if, the Gills are safe.
He said: “Peter has managed to get the team playing the way he wants them to play and getting the best out of certain players.
“Given that he has inherited someone else’s squad, to a great extent, he has done a good job. We will talk about the future when our position is safe. I have got no issues with Peter.
“I am happy with what he is doing but all we are focusing on is winning games at the moment.”
