Welshman Aaron Morris has joined the Gills after rejecting a contract offer at AFC Wimbledon.
The versatile 24-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, has agreed a two-year-deal at Priestfield.
He is Peter Taylor’s second summer signing, after capturing goalkeeper Glenn Morris on a one-year deal.
Morris played f17 games for AFC Wimbledon last season after joining them in January, following his return from injury.
He suffered cruciate ligament damage at former club Aldershot, having previously been a regular in their side.
Now fit again, Gills boss Peter Taylor hopes he can make the grade at League 1 level.
Taylor said: “He can play midfield and in defence. He started at Cardiff and then played a lot of games at Aldershot before having a bad knee injury.
“They got relegated and went into administration and it was a hard time for him.
“He got himself fit and once he was fit he went to AFC Wimbledon and he is someone I know a lot about.”
