Doncaster Rovers 2 Gillingham 0

GILLINGHAM club captain Chris Hope had a clear view of Doncaster's opening goal on Saturday and was certain the ball didn't cross the line.

Hope, who formed part of a five-man defence for the visitors, also felt Rovers's second goal was questionable on a day of disappointment and frustration for the Gills in League 1.

Hope said: "We conceded two contentios goals, that's the frustrating thing. One isn't a goal and the other's a dodgy penalty.

"The contentious goal killed us a little bit. The ball came in and I was at the far post looking along the line. Brown got a hand to it and the ball was on the line.

"For me it didn't go over. Even a couple of their lads close by said it wasn't a goal."

Gills boss Ronnie Jepson confirmed that goalkeeper Jason Brown thought he had kept David Wheater's effort out.

Jepson said: "Jason Brown was adamant that the ball wasn’t over the line and so were the players. He had two hands on the ball at one stage and the lad’s kicked it out of his hands. He said it definitely wasn’t over the line."
