Gillingham manager Mark Stimson will get back to the drawing board today as he seeks to repair the damage inflicted on his team.

Saturday’s 7-0 hammering at Shrewsbury has left the first-team door wide open and Stimson has invited any challengers to fight for a place in the starting eleven.

It was the club’s worst defeat since October 1961 and Stimson vowed: "The players will be back in and I shouldn’t have to get them up now.

"It will be a case of trying to slow a few of them down because they will want to impress that much and next week’s team is now up for grabs.

"What’s gone is gone and Saturday is the last time I’ve seen them. Let’s see who comes in on Monday morning and is up for the challenge.

"They’ll be up (for training) and I’ll be amazed if they’re not. We’ll go to Aldershot next week and hopefully give a much better performance for those fans and get back to getting points on the board.

"I shouldn’t need to do a lot. The players should come in and want to prove to me that it’s a one-off and they want to get out playing.

"They are capable, we just need to try as best we can to forget Saturday’s result and get over it.

"If you are a good pro, and I think all the boys are, they just need to learn by their experiences.

"We need to learn from a few of the Shrewsbury players, when to stay on your feet and when to go down and be clever. We’ll be showing them some videos of that and key points we can learn from.

"The boys will be down, really down but it’s about how we get over it.

"We need to get back to what we did last week, which is keeping the width and asking questions for the opposition and, most importantly, it’s not to concede goals from set pieces."
