Gillingham manager Mark Stimson is hoping a win on Saturday will convince chairman Paul Scally to splash the cash one last time.

The transfer window closes on Monday and Stimson is keen to bolster his striking options with one more addition. But, after already stretching the transfer budget to the maximum, he knows thrashing out a deal could be tough.

“Results change things sometimes,” Stimson said. “If we get a good result on Saturday then you speak to the chairman and he’s buzzing – you might be able to tempt him to do something. That’s what I hope to do at the weekend.

“I know the chairman is coming back for the game (from Dubai) and if we get a win it might be my last throw of the dice and I can ask, ‘can we do it; yes or no’.”
