THE Gillingham-based Invicta Dynamos ice hockey side have made a second new signing and two of their most influential players have re-signed for another season at the Ice Bowl.
Number one netminder Matt Van Der Velden and the free-scoring Matt Beveridge will be back in Dynamos colours as will young British defenseman Michael Wales.
Wales was the Solihull Barons assistant captain last season, although he was also part of the junior development programme at Gillingham. Director Sean Clement said: “Michael will be a welcome addition to the team as he is a strong defenseman who can score points.”
Clement, a crowd favourite himself who is still deciding whether he has another season in him, is also delighted that Van Der Velden and Beveridge have agreed terms.
He said: “Matt was one of the best goalies in the league last year and we are extremely pleased that he has returned.
“And Matt Beveridge has been the top points scorer and named the club’s top forward in the two seasons he's been with us. He's a consistent goalscorer who gives 100 per cent in every game and we're delighted he'll be a Dynamo again.”
Director Jackie Mason said: “Talks are still underway with other players but we're not looking to make wholesale changes to a winning team. Instead we are looking to add strength in certain positions.”
Club captain Phil Chard and forward Elliott Andrews were the first of last year’s double-winning squad to commit themselves for another season and Samuli Mykkanen was the first new face in.
