Boss Peter Taylor hopes the Gills fans will use their voices to get behind his men on Friday, when they hosts Tranmere.

The Gillingham manager had no complaints with the way the fans vented their anger last weekend at Leyton Orient.

But he now wants those fans to back the team positively at Priestfield.

He said: “I think the supporters will be in magnificent voice and they understand the situation as well.

“I am sure they are probably frustrated with me and the team. I understand all of that totally and I accept that.

“But I think they also know the situation that we are in. We have got to make sure that at Priestfield there is fantastic support behind the team.

“They know that if the support is not there it will make the players even more nervous and then that might affect the result.”

Gillingham fans turned on their team after

a woeful first half on Saturday, at Orient.

“It costs them hard-earned money to watch their team and they had nothing to cheer," said Taylor.

“I certainly understand their frustration."

Taylor will be watching Friday's opponents Tranmere on Tuesday night, at Crawley.

Tranmere would go ahead of the Gills with a win.

"I am hoping they will have a real hard match because that would help the situation and then they have just a couple of days to recover," said the Gills boss.

"I would take a draw (against Crawley), that would be alright."

The Gills beat Tranmere last time out, winning 2-1 on December 20. Read the report from that game here.
