Peter Taylor’s disappointment from his side’s last showing was washed away with a commanding performance at Dartford.
The Gills boss was less than happy about the way the team played in the second half on Saturday at Welling.
But against Welling’s fellow Conference Premier opponents Dartford, it all came together.
Taylor said: “I learnt that we are capable of passing the ball around very well and if we get the decision-making right and the timing right then we can have a lot of the ball.
“I thought both sets of players (first half and second half) played exceptionally well. The first goal was absolutely outstanding. Danny Kedwell took up a brilliant position at the far post. Loft has found him and Amine went into support and everything you talk about they did. It was a great first goal.
“We were a bit disappointed on Saturday with the way we played in the second half against Welling and so I was probably expecting the boys to do that. They did it very well.”
A big win was a bonus for Taylor as he continued to build his team up for the season opener on August 9.
“The most important thing is the fitness,” said the Gills boss.
“It’s very nice to win a match, because if you do anything in sport, if you are that minded, you want to win, so it’s always nice to win but at the minute the most important thing is the fitness.
“Of course, it’s also how the boys play and about their touch and little things of supporting play and so on. We have just asked them to be patient and keep the ball a bit more and so far they have done that excellently in pre-season.”
