Peter Taylor expressed his disappointment at a section of Gillingham fans who abused him throughout Saturday’s game at Preston.

The Gills lost the game 3-1 but the club finished the afternoon knowing that their League 1 safety was secure – a job Taylor had arrived to achieve.

A group of supporters in the Gillingham end clearly didn’t appreciate the manager’s efforts.
And Taylor hit back, saying: “It was extremely frustrating because I have come in after 11 matches, with nine points, and the team had just two wins.

“The whole job at that time was to try and raise a group of players that were a little bit down at the time and to try and get enough results to try and stay in the division. That’s been mission accomplished.”

But from the first whistle, he came under-fire at Preston.

Taylor said: “I kept thinking I was hearing a few things, which I was very disappointed with.

“I am hoping it is just a minority of supporters who think they are supporting the team by having a go at the manager. They are not really and it is disappointing to hear.

“It won’t make any difference to the way I work because I hear people having a pop at the manager.

“It is disappointing because I thought we were all in it together and we are all working extremely hard to get the same result and we got the result, we got enough points to stay in the division, that was the aim. Unfortunately you have to put up with things like that.”
