Manager Peter Taylor is keeping everyone guessing as to who will be Gillingham captain this season.

One man who would love the job is striker Danny Kedwell.

He wore the captain’s armband at Dover on Tuesday night after newcomer Doug Loft had taken responsibility against Ipswich last weekend.

“It is still up in the air and I haven’t made up my mind,” said Gills boss Taylor this week.

“People might think it is Doug Loft but as people saw on Saturday, he went to give it to Adam Barrett (when he came off the bench).

“Nothing has ever been said to Doug Loft and to be fair, I haven’t even got involved in that.”

Kedwell, 30, insists that his commitment won’t waver whatever the decision is.
He said: “Whoever has got it, we all have to be leaders out on that pitch, not just one person.

“I would definitely welcome it, anyone would. It’s a big thing to be captain.
“I have been captain a few times here and there and I wouldn’t mind having it full-time, that’s for sure. We will see.

“It isn’t going to take any skin off my nose (if I’m not captain). I am just here to play as well as I can at Gillingham Football Club.”
