Manager Peter Taylor praised the efforts of Gillingham’s players after the club’s League 1 safety was sealed.
Taylor inherited the majority of the current team when he took over in the wake of Martin Allen’s dismissal back in October. With a game to spare, the Gills are now mathematically safe.
“I have enjoyed working with the players 100%,” said the Gills boss.
“They are great to get up for and work with, they give everything they have got. Even at times when it is not good enough, they still bounce back and so they deserve a lot of credit.
“The players have worked exceptionally hard to get 52 points. We can still get 55 and then all of a sudden we can pick up a place or two.
“It is a decent achievement. I am sure people won’t see it that way but I do. Staying in the division is a very important situation for the club and I think at one time we were struggling to do that. The lads have pulled through.”
