Manager Peter Taylor will tell his Gillingham players to put last weekend’s nightmare behind them when they host Tranmere on Good Friday.

Taylor is determined to see his team put on an impressive home display to banish the memories of last Saturday’s 5-1 defeat at Leyton Orient. It was a game which hit Taylor hard.

He said: “A manager takes things 10 times more than a player. If we win I am 10 times happier than them and if we lose I am 10 times sadder.

“I took that performance personally on Saturday and it was unacceptable. But you have to stay strong and bounce back and that’s what I am going to do.

“We’ve got a lot of football coming up but the most important thing is that we concentrate on this one."

Gillingham fans were understandably frustrated last weekend and now Taylor hopes the players respond.

He said: “The players have got to be big and brave and get on with it. There are supporters who are going to be frustrated and rightly so. But, I also know the supporters will know it’s an important match for us.

“They can be more helpful by getting behind the boys. The supporters have done nothing wrong, it is only our performances that have been wrong."
