Goalkeeper Stuart Nelson is set to face serious competition for the number one spot at Gillingham next season.
Boss Peter Taylor is hunting for an experienced keeper to challenge Nelson’s position in the team.
Nelson played every minute of every game last season and was named supporters’ player-of-the-year but Taylor said: “I am looking for someone to come in and challenge.
“I want two players in every position and I want every position to be challenged.”
Gillingham used former Bromley keeper George Howard as cover for much of last season before Taylor brought in Sam Baxter in February. Neither got a sniff of action.
Taylor said: “We went a certain way last season but I am looking to bring in a more
experienced number two who is going to challenge Stuart. I need it and Stuart needs it.
“He had an outstanding season but I still think he can target an even better one, that’s what he has to do."
