Gillingham boss Peter Taylor insists he’ll be going easy on his players as they return for pre-season on Wednesday.
The Gills players underwent fitness tests on Monday and Tuesday at Canterbury University.
Wednesday is the first day back at their Beechings Cross training ground - ahead of the first pre-season test against Folkestone on July 11.
Taylor said: “It will be hard but I don’t think it will be long hard work.
“They won’t be thinking, ‘oh my God, I’ve got to do this all day’. It is nothing like that.
“There will be short-sharp sessions, some will involve running but there won’t be long running, that is a cert.
“There will be a mixture of everything and we are just going to be very careful to make sure they keep fit.
“We don’t want any injuries. We don’t want blisters and pulled muscles because they are getting involved with the ball too quickly.
“They have been weighed and we know all about the body fat scores and the results are very good. James (the fitness coach) is very excited about it.”
Next week the Gills are due to spend several days away in Colchester, at the Five-Lakes Leisure Resort.
