It’s a shame we couldn’t come away with anything from Wednesday’s game against Sheffield United but it wasn’t for the lack of trying.
I thought we did well, especially in the first half. But sometimes it just doesn’t go your way.
That game ended an extended spell without a match for us but there was no way we were sitting around twiddling our thumbs. We had plenty of time on the training ground and the management staff were out several nights watching games.
I was at the Coventry-Carlisle match on Tuesday, having intended to also watch them on Saturday before their game was called off.
I ended up watching Kidderminster against Lincoln. It was too late to go and see another match but it was good to spend the afternoon watching a game with my lad.
It was a case of just watching and I didn’t have to worry about making sure I missed a corner or a set-play. I’m often out watching games and when we’re watching future opposition, you have to do the basics.
We don’t try and complicate things but you are looking for the formation, how they try and play, what they do at set-pieces, who is the main header and any other bits of information, like a player who could make a difference.
